5 /5 Francis Hook: I called in here on a business trip as an alternative to the rather predictable Holiday Inn dinner (just down the road from here, where I was staying) . ÂŁ7ish for a glass of wine here is also far more pleasurable than forking out ÂŁ14 at the Holiday Inn.
I wasn’t that hungry so I had two popadoms, a lamb vindaloo, pilau rice, naan and cucumber raita.
One is not going hungry to bed on that.
The lamb vindaloo was such that it caused pain. Good! If you want a painless curry, go for the butter chicken on the girls’ menu. :-)
There was a good amount of lean meat without gristle. So often restaurants laden a vindaloo with potatoes and skip the meat. Not here. The sauce / gravy was a good standard vindaloo flavour, what we all write home about. The naan was highly edible: I usually find them heavy and eat only half: this one was enjoyed to the end, covered in the excellent sauce / gravy.
I finished with a good filter coffee and fresh cream. Total bill was about ÂŁ45. My general manager walked into the restaurant just as I was finishing, and put the meal onto his expenses.
It’s wise to book. This was a Tuesday early eve ing and they fill up very quickly.
And my usual self review question: would I go back?Most definitely, even if I am not in the immediate area.
