3 /5 Eunika Okolo: Beautiful venue and great service from Isabella, but disappointing overall experience
I visited Miller & Carter Muswell Hill last Sunday evening with a friend for a small Christmas celebration. The location inside a former church is absolutely breathtaking—such a stunning setting and definitely a memorable atmosphere for dining out. It was my first time trying Miller & Carter, so I was really looking forward to the experience.
Our waitress, Isabella, was genuinely lovely: warm, helpful, and attentive throughout. We ordered a couple of starters and the filet mignon for our mains with some sides. I always eat my steak well done—that’s just how we prepare meat where I’m from—and having recently travelled and enjoyed a well-done steak that wasn’t chewy, I expected the same from a dedicated steakhouse.
Unfortunately, my first steak was extremely tough. After struggling with just one bite, we called Isabella over and explained the issue. She handled it perfectly, immediately offering a replacement. The second steak came out cooked properly and tasted great. She also explained that because it was a busy service, a well-done steak can easily go past the mark.
However, when the manager came over, the experience took a negative turn. He was condescending, interrupted us several times while we were trying to talk, and overall made us feel dismissed rather than listened to. It really contrasted with Isabella’s excellent service.
Even though the issue with the food was resolved and we appreciated Isabella’s professionalism, the interaction with the manager left a bad impression. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be returning.
