Brooke Harris We had a great time at giggling squid today. This was our first visit where we were welcomed by Jody who was really friendly. Jody recommended some great dishes to us and they did not disappoint. Our food arrived promptly and was fresh. We will definitely be back soon!

Suzanne Green We have just had a fabulous couple of nights at this wonderful hotel. The rooms are not too luxurious. The furniture and pictures on the wall are outdated and there are places where carpets are worn and walls need repainting. However the beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are extremely clean. What makes this hotel so special (other than its age and location) is the people working in it. It is a Greene King chain but it feels like a family run hotel. Every person we met was charming, helpful and it made the whole stay so pleasurable. The other thing that was incredible was the quality of food. We rarely eat in the same place for two nights in a row but the first night was so good, we had to go back to experience some more of the chefs food. The second night was as fabulous as the first. The breakfast was outstanding too with an excellent cooked breakfast, delicious pastries and range of fresh fruit, cereals and teas. We are talking about taking our grown up children back there again soon as we were so impressed.

Babs Rahman I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food tasted, it really was delicious. One of the best biriyanis Ive had in a long time. The tarka dahl was also cooked to my liking (they let me swap it in lieu of the curry sauce or raita). I also felt it was reasonably priced (£25 for 2 course and a drink). My only minor complaint would be that the short waiter looked moody and smelled of body odour.

I asked for a recommendation for a salon to do my evening hairstyle: at one “good” hotel they handed me a list of addresses. At Gravetye, they immediately booked me an appointment at a convenient time and arranged a taxi to the salon. It’s in details like these that you feel the difference between a good hotel and a truly excellent one: initiative, attention to detail, and genuine care for the guest. If you value comfort and service that takes worries off your hands, Gravetye is the perfect choice.

mark stevens Stopped here for a drink and an early evening meal, greeted by the friendly bar staff, served drinks and then grabbed a table. Good value drinks prices, and delicious food; meals arrived promptly even though the pub was fairly busy. Very tasty, and well presented. The young man who brought our food to us deserves a special mention, he was polite, helpful, a real asset to the team here. I will be returning soon, I recommend this pub.
