Parsonage Grill - (Near Oxfordshire, South East)

5 /5 N M: Had a really lovely dinner. The restaurant has a dark, cosy feel with beautiful paintings along the walls, lovely for a relaxed winter evening. I had the rabbit & tarragon pie with rosemary carrots and broccoli. The pie was memorable because instead of the usual pastry lid on a dish, it came as a round pastry ball filled with the pie inside. It felt special and tasted absolutely delicious. Trifle was also good. It wasn’t very busy when I visited (early dinner), but it was a calm, comfortable atmosphere. Service was good and attentive without being overbearing.

5 /5 Tim Walker: We popped in for drinks before our table at Pierre Victoire over the road. I had to take the time to say how fantastic the staff were to a person. We were treated like guests and although it’s been a few years since we have eaten here we will now plan a return trip with haste.

4 /5 Sam Holland: After many recommendations that this was the best afternoon tea in town, I decided to give it a go for a birthday treat for my girlfriend. Had a really nice afternoon. The restaurant is warm and cosy and was the ideal spot for nice lunch on a cold, gloomy afternoon. The spread was lovely, all cakes and sandwiches were delicious and the tea selections were impressive. Only improvement would be to be more generous with the jam and clotted cream - first world problems n all that. Staff were pretty good. It seemed quite business-meeting heavy clientel in there and few olds, but I guess thats what you get for taking a Tuesday off work. Would definitely come back and try the restaurant, so cant give the place a 5* as we only had cake and sandwiches. Overall, pretty good and more importantly, the mrs loved it.

5 /5 Farouq S. Aldilaijan: The restaurant is part of the Old Parsonage Hotel, by The Oxford Collection. The hotel was built in 1660 AD. The outdoor seating area is relatively small. The decor and design of the outdoor seating area make you feel like youre in an old movie. The design is wonderful and the seating is comfortable and relaxing, especially with the artificial waterfall nearby. Hearing the sound of the water nearby is relaxing. Ambiance is great. The service is good and the afternoon tea was very good.

3 /5 Jens Wikke: Disappointed... Wed booked a table at the Parsonage to celebrate our anniversary, but is was a very mixed bag. The tables and chairs are extremely low and it really felt like we were sitting a kids table. The decor is a bit dated. As we were being seated we were asked if wed like something to drink and we asked for some sparkling water and 2 glasses of prosecco. It took an absolute age before it arrived and the place was not very busy. Our food order was eventually taken and again it took forever before our starters arrived... Not really any cooking involved..it was a crab salad and some oysters. When it finally arrived I was appalled at the size of the oysters.. They were tiny! At £4.50 a pop youd expect more... The crab salad was lovely according to the Mrs. We both ordered fillet steak for mains, medium for Mrs and medium rare for me. When it arrived the waiter presented them as 2 medium fillets so we told him that that was not what we ordered and he left with both plates again - instead of leaving the medium that was supposedly correct. He quickly returned with the same plates and said that they were now correct... But both sets of meat were overcooked. We mentioned it to the waiter and they offered to bring new dishes but by now wed eaten over half so it would have been a waste of food. We did say that we would of course pay for the food, but thought it was important to mention to the kitchen. The dauphinoise potatoes and carrots side dish were lovely. The manager did apologise profusely for the poor experience and offered several solutions to mitigate which was appreciated, but we said that everything was fine and that he didnt have to. When the bill eventually arrived (having asked for it 3 times), they had taken both of our mains off the bill which was of course super kind, but not the reason we had raised the issue in the first place. Of course not the greatest experience for an anniversary dinner, but not a disaster. I think the tables and chairs actually annoyed me more than the slow service and the food.
