5 /5 ANDREA BENSON: Gorgeous friendly country pub with open fires making it really cosy! ☺️ The staff are lovely, we always feel looked after when visiting. Excellent food, especially the rustic bread and steak pie!! Highly recommend the Sunday lunch too.

5 /5 Julian Penniston-Hill: A real find. We are not local, but were lost, hungry and decided to stop for some lunch. The Crown is an absolutely lovely, warm and very welcoming place to be. The staff are very friendly and the service exceptional, but it was the standard of the food that blew us away. We were just not expecting that level of quality - particularly given the price. They are doing themselves an injustice. Happily, I am back in the area next month on a business trip and before we left I booked a room to return. Highly recommended.

5 /5 Mark Mark: An absolutely fantastic bar — easily the best local I’ve ever visited. Since taking over just over 12 months ago, the new landlord has completely transformed it from an ordinary pub into a true hub for the community. The food far exceeds what you would expect from a neighbourhood pub, with generous portion sizes and impressive quality. The Sunday roast is, without doubt, the best I’ve ever had. I’ve paid several times as much in highly rated London restaurants, yet none have come close to matching it. The décor is stylish, and the outdoor seating area is a real gem, complete with log burners to keep you warm as the temperature drops. The landlord, John, must be one of the friendliest in the country. Despite being relatively new, he seems to know everyone. What I appreciate most is his focus on community — introducing people to one another and championing other local businesses, something you don’t often see. He has built a loyal following, and his staff speak highly of him. While he pushes them to deliver great service, they understand that his standards benefit both them and the pub. The clientele are a wonderfully varied mix, with people from all walks of life. What stands out is how John goes out of his way to welcome new faces — introducing them to others, remembering their names, and making sure they feel included. It genuinely feels like you’re becoming part of a community rather than just visiting a pub.

Out of interest, did you voice your dissatisfaction to a member of staff or the manager first rather than bad mouth a good local business on social media? The Crown is a fab pub in a great location with fantastic food and staff. John is a great manager who goes above and beyond to ensure his staff are happy and well trained in their positions..ask them and see what they tell you! (Be patient with new staff, remember, weve all been there!). We have lived in Benson for 2 years and eat regularly in The Crown and never been disappointed with the quality of the food,(especially the roasts, fish and chips and pie.....well, all of it really ) or service. It has a great outdoor area and new marquee for hosting events as well as regular weekend music. John is an enthusiastic manager who has made it his mission to be part of the community, know his customers and make The Crown a big part of the community for which we are greatful.

1 /5 beverley conway: I’ve been to the Crown many times but there is a definite downturn in customer service and a huge increase in prices. My last two meals have been substandard. One meal tasted like a reheated ready meal and ultra processed. Staff pleasant but not overly experienced and timid. Likely due to the Landlord who is arrogant and obnoxious to staff and customers. There are plenty of alternative pubs of a better quality.
