3 /5 Simona Ferro: Unfortunately, I found it a bit expensive for the food and service received. Although we were told we would be in a private room, we ended up dining in a white room with mirrors, more reminiscent of a canteen, as the restaurant was hosting a private event. The tea had been offered but was later included on the bill. I would have expected some kind of adjustment given the mix-up and the fairly ordinary dishes and service.

1 /5 Francesca Vella: Really sorry to be leaving such a review as I normally genuinely enjoy leaving positive ones however it’s good to be transparent. We booked Christmas lunch for 2 at the Gate as it was only my husband and I this Christmas unfortunately. We paid the full price ahead of booking which I found exaggerated and that was £95 each for a supposedly 3 course meal and coffee/tea and petite four. This was the “cheapest” and decent nice Christmas lunch set menu in Richmond which is also supposedly a nice area. Firstly we parked in the hotel car park but had to pay for our parking which was about £7. I feel this should have been complimentary for guests. The setting is not in a nice area of Richmond. As soon as we entered the reception is already felt dated and upon going to the bathrooms it was quite messy and not up kept. We then went to the restaurant which at first glance seemed decent however on going round I again could see signs that the place was not updated and needed up keep. We were seated in the conservatory area and it was absolutely freezing cold throughout the whole lunch. I was wearing a heavy tweed dress and I still felt cold. The service was extremely rushed which I hate especially on Christmas ! I mean if you don’t get to relax on Christmas then when ?! We had too many different waiters servicing us and interrupting us too many times. Food came in so rushed we had all courses in less than an hour. We got drinks which I know were extra but cocktails weren’t great. We then asked for a coffee which was meant to be included with petite fours and made to pay for it. Overall not a good experience especially when you pay so much. Unfortunately won’t be back.

1 /5 Emily: Some update they actually charge for the breakfast (eggs or anything hot) that’s supposed to be included in the room. The fruits aren’t fresh at all, and there’s nothing suitable for anyone who doesn’t eat pork. When I asked if i could talk to a manager I was told that she’s extremely busy rn. Overall, quite poor and disappointing The atmosphere is still lovely, but unfortunately, the food quality has gone downhill. It used to be great, but something has definitely changed since the beginning of the year. The meat dishes no longer taste fresh, and the overall quality just isn’t what it used to be. Service has also been disappointing the staff often seem unhappy or unwelcoming, even when you’re being friendly and polite. It’s a shame, because this place had so much potential.

5 /5 Lauren Pearce: My friend and I had a wonderful time here for dinner and a few cocktails, we would recommend the pornstar martini or a margarita! The service from both Ciaran and Virenti was amazing credit to them for making our evening extra special!
