The Old Red Lion - (Near , South East)

5 /5 Jonathan Ward: We went to the Old Red Lion for Sunday lunch and like many reviewers, we were not disappointed. All staff we interacted with were friendly and smiled, and the Sunday Roast options are without question the best we have sampled around this area. Fresh and very good quality food is served. A good range of wines are offered, and lovely desserts topped off our visit!

1 /5 Sandra: Booked a table in advance. They tried to place us in the crowded bar area. Table next to us had a pushchair so not really enough room for our table. We asked to be moved. The dining room was practically empty apart from 2 tables occupied. So we were placed there after I said it was too crowded where they were going to place us. We placed our order. A couple of minutes later went and advised could we change one of the orders to a burger meal. I asked the young waitress if there was any pork on the burger she said no. My drink came ordered a medium wine was given a large. We were brought another tables meals. Then our meals came unfortunately the burger came with pork. When changing to the burger meal I asked that no pork came with the burger and was reassured by the waitress it did not. They took it away, came back with a cold burger. All of the burger was cold not just the bun but the meat itself. By that time I had had enough. Told them to just take it away. I couldnt get out there fast enough. When the young waitress brought the bill just plonked it down and walked away, no asking "how was your meal" or "sorry about the mistakes". No communication. Roast dinner luke warm I really couldnt be bothered to mention that also the meat was very chewy. Expensive for what it was, nothing special. They just couldnt care less, no apologies nothing. Dont waste your money.

5 /5 Andy Napier: After driving past The Old Red Lion on a weekly basis and not really giving it a second look, the need for some lunch with friends whilst nearby prompted us to look at the online reviews out of curiosity, and we were pleasantly surprised by the consistently high scores. Booking online was simple and easy. Getting parked was fine on a weekday lunchtime, but I imagine at weekends things could be an awful lot trickier - and would leave me rather anxious with the lack of car park. The food is excellent for the price point. The pork schnitzel was flavourful, tender and hot. It was served with a fresh and well dressed chopped salad and a mountain of French fries. The Beef and Horseradish sandwich certainly wasnt lacking in the filling department and came served with a generous stack of quality crisps on the side. The kids Pasta was plenty for a 13 year old appetite, and was again clearly freshly prepared and seasoned well. The other item from the kids menu was the burger which was again of a decent size and topped well. The pub itself is spotlessly clean, well laid out, and outside commands a lovely view from the beer garden. All in all very pleasantly surprised - and we are only saddened by having not visited sooner.
