Came in for Sunday roast carvery with family whilst on October half-term holiday. The building looks a little tatty
and the seating area is quite small, but it is clearly an extremely popular local venue, with lots of people in. They also host regular events and themed nights, by the look of posters and flyers on display,
Staff were friendly and helpful, coming out from behind the small counter area leading off from the kitchen to serve.
The carvery was off to the side, in a smaller room, with a selection of meats and vegetables. Good Yorkshires and stuffing was really nice.
The gravy is made with red wine, so if you don’t like it with wine, make sure to avoid covering your dinner with it ands ask for some to be made up for you without wine. Unfortunately, this isn’t advertised, so you won’t realise until it’s too late, unless you’ve read this review!
They had a nice selection of puddings and I really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding with custard, which was not only delicious, but also nicely presented. The Apple Crumble also looked great and I’m assured tasted as good as it looked!
Food was reasonably priced and had a really home cooked feel.
Accessibility wise, there are a couple of small steps into the building, so not suitable for non-ambulatory wheelchair users. It is also very crowded in the seating area.
Toilet is basic, but serviceable.
One thing I didn’t like was spotting the owner / chef having a quick vape whilst inside, behind the counter, but other than that, was a good experience.
