5 /5 G G: Every time I visit the UK, I can never find any spicy foods here. Enough with the pastys and English breakfasts already, they are good but bland and lack creative spices. Ive been to Dishoom and asked for spicy, "Indian spicy", as my Indian friend told me to say, and it was still not spicy enough to an American level.
I found this little gem of a restaurant, Mamas, while staying the night at a hotel before a flight. I ordered a ton of food, enough that they had to switch me from a 2 person table to a booth, and ordered a little bit of everything. Never had Nepalese food before, only way to describe it would be if Indians and the Chinese got along at the border and decided to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Best of both worlds in one food.
Let me tell you that not only was every single dish FLAVORFUL, but it was actually respectfully spicy that Im finally satisfied. I ordered random stuff off the menu, noodles (smokey, wok fried flavor), chili chicken (its sweet and spicy), crunchy spicy appetizer that I have no idea what its called (Indians eat it too, they call it bhel purri, its a street food), lamb curry (great flavor) and garlic naan (freshly made).
I recommend this place to those who are sick of eating bland foods in the UK.
I ordered a feast for myself and I have 0 shame, Ill just go to the gym for a few days. No regrets, worth it.
