1 /5 Lara Özarslan: Terra Moderna was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in London. For a restaurant positioning itself as refined Italian dining, the food, service, and overall experience were shockingly poor from start to finish.
The pasta beef ragu ox I ordered was completely undercooked and appeared to have been reheated in the oven -inexcusable for any kitchen, let alone one charging premium prices. They had also run out of beef tartare and, instead of communicating properly, served us a beef carpaccio claiming it was “the same” because it cost £21. It was not. The flavour, preparation, and quality were equally underwhelming.
Our dishes arrived over 30 minutes late, and when the tiramisu finally came, it turned out to be nothing more than a dry piece of cake masquerading under the wrong name. The table next to us seemed to be enduring the exact same issues, which clearly points to a wider problem with consistency and management.
The most concerning part of the evening was the behaviour of our server. When I calmly mentioned our concerns, he openly made fun of me - an utterly unprofessional and disrespectful response that left both of us appalled. My partner had to intervene before the situation escalated further.
After a long and frustrating discussion, the only gesture offered was removing the wine from our bill — small consolation for inedible food, long delays, and a ruined evening.
Terra Moderna fails on every front: food quality, service, authenticity, and respect for customers. Save yourself the disappointment and the £150+ — this is not an Italian experience worth having in Hampstead.
