1 /5 Nigel Williams: I had a dinner reservation at the Bell on Wednesday 25th February. Sadly, the experience fell way short of the standards weve come to expect at this beautiful location.
We chose the Bell for a birthday celebration for our friend. He wanted to return to the pub as he had had such a nice time when we visited last year.
On this occasion, we chose to celebrate by having the most expensive red wine on your list. Sadly, this was not available. The comedy of errors continued as we placed our orders. We were told that the crayfish salad was unavailable because there were no avocados. This seemed a little ridiculous, as we could have picked some up at our village shop just down the road. Maybe the chef couldve done this?
There was a long wait before the food arrived. Two of the party had ordered the Chilli beef, which was clearly over salted. Both of those who ordered it were unable to finish it. We mentioned this to the waiter, who apologised but did nothing further.
Feeling disappointed at this moment, we settled on ice cream and some coffee, only to be told that there was no Coffee because the machine wasnt working.
We left feeling disappointed and deflated after what should have been special evening celebrating our friends birthday.
