1 /5 Hazal Atas: I very rarely ever leave reviews, and in fact, this is the first time I have felt truly compelled to write one — but my recent experience at this salon has been so damaging and distressing that I believe others deserve to be warned.
I have been having professional nail treatments for over 10 years and never once have I experienced anything close to this level of harm. Following a removal treatment at this salon, I developed severe pain and a burning sensation in my nails the very next day. The pain escalated to such a degree that I had to urgently seek medical attention. My GP and a dermatology specialist (who deals specifically with nail and skin health) both confirmed that my natural nails had been significantly damaged. I was prescribed antibiotics to prevent bacterial infection, antifungal medication as a precaution, and topical treatment to assist with healing.
For most people this would be upsetting enough, but in my case it carried a far greater risk: I have a congenital heart condition. Any bacteria entering my bloodstream could have had dangerous, even life-threatening, consequences. My medical team made it clear that recovery would take months, leaving me not only in physical pain but under immense stress and worry.
Out of fairness, I did not immediately write a review. Instead, I contacted the salon politely to explain what had happened. Over the phone, I was told the only thing they could offer was a “healing treatment” back at the salon. Two weeks later, after dealing with hospital and GP appointments, I returned in person and calmly asked for a refund as a matter of principle.
When I tried to show the salon owner the actual condition of my nails — which were visibly damaged — she hardly looked at them, dismissing my concerns entirely. Instead, I was told that “damage during removal is normal,” which is simply untrue to anyone with experience in nail care. Despite my situation, the salon offered me only £8 back. This felt less like compensation and more like a token gesture, and I returned it to them out of principle.
Throughout this ordeal, I remained polite and patient, but I was met with a complete lack of empathy, accountability, or genuine care. My partner, distressed at the treatment I received, attempted to intervene, but I asked him not to cause a scene — even though his frustration was justified.
For clarity, I have photographic evidence of my nails immediately after the treatment, as well as medical documentation from my GP and pharmacist confirming the extent of the damage and the prescribed medications.
The lack of responsibility and compassion shown by this salon is deeply concerning. I will never return here, and I cannot recommend this business to anyone in Maidenhead or beyond. Customer service is not just about money — it is about respect, professionalism, and care for clients’ wellbeing. Sadly, none of these were present here.
For the sake of your health and peace of mind, I urge others to choose a different salon.
