2 /5 Rachel Bealing: Great coffee but felt very unworthy and unwelcomed. I had just come from a dog walk so was not looking my best. When I walked through the door, the lady looked shocked to see me, I asked whether I could have two take away coffees, she said yes and proceeded to take my order. Whilst I was waiting a man walked in, wearing a Crystal Palace jacket, he wanted to order a sausage sandwich. The lady said he could only sit out the back, the man said it was a bit cold outside, the lady said there is no room in here (there were only 3 tables with people on and there were tables out the front). The lady serving was making it very clear that she didn’t want this man to be seen out the front of her cafe or in the cafe itself.
When I got my coffees, she asked me whether I wanted sugar, I replied “yes in the cappuccino”, the lady looked at me blankly, I said “oh sorry did I not order a cappuccino”, thinking that I’d maybe ordered a latte instead. She said “yes cappuccino”, so I said “fab, I’ll have sugar in the cappuccino not the mocha”, again she looked blankly at me, so I repeated again “can I just have sugar in the cappuccino please”, the lady the responded with frustration “yes how many?!”. Taken aback, I responded saying that 1 was fine, and then said “you didn’t ask me how many I wanted, you just said if I wanted any sugar, to which I said yes, had you asked me how many I wanted, I would have given you a number”.
I was puzzled by this whole experience. It was my first time visiting this cafe and it will definitely be my last. Felt very unwelcome. Such a shame because the coffee was really nice.
