What Clients Are Saying Dining at Glyndebourne (GG)
5 /5 J S: Nether Wallop restaurant food was so good. The way they used veggies was so tasty. Im not veggie and had a meat main, but it was the veggies that stood out. Our waitress was lovely too.
3 /5 Aurélie Nuret-Angles: We ordered the picnic hamper (around 40£/person) and although it was extremely convenient, we thought it was really overpriced. Quality wasnt great, all cutlery and glass provided but no plate, we did not even touch the pudding which we both found pretty bad. Such a great idea, but either at a lower price or better quality
5 /5 Jaycee Tee: We were lucky enough to eat as guests in the Over Wallop restaurant at Glyndebourne last week, during a performance of the Magic Flute (sublime singing and music!), and thought the food the best we have ever had there. We had the Sussex asparagus starter, followed by the Cumbrian lamb (cooked to perfection and the depth of flavour in the jus was simply superb), with the coffee mousse to finish. All the dishes were absolutely delicious and we could not find a single fault. Well done to Steve Groves and his brilliant team. As always the service was immaculate and it is a wonder to behold how so many meals are delivered (like clockwork) mid-performance in such a short window. Thank you so much to all concerned for helping to make such a special evening.
4 /5 Phil Cameron: I see some negativity about pricing and picnics in other reviews, but we eat at the restaurants every time and the food and wine are pretty good at both the ‘Wallops’ (a bit traditional and bland at Mildmay, but each to their own) and the staff are always charming.
We’ve just had the winter wood-fired lunch menu at Nether which was nice enough, though raclette not melted and service a bit slow. A particular nod to Morgan who is both charming and helpful!
1 /5 Karl Forsyth-Gray: Very very disappointing we had a picnic for two at the long interval.
First I had booked a table by the lake side only to be told it was by the Haha in freezing winds no shade .
The picnic was terrible First the bread seemed stale the butter was melted and rancid. The slices of smoked trout dry and stuck to the paper it was wrapped in.
Feta salad sour and flacid
Smoked chicken over salty dry and the accumping salad, wilted and soggy from being dressed to soon.
The luxury sausage roll dry tasteless served in a scruffy paperbag.
Greegs would have been better..
There was something they called a triffle ? What ever it was not a trifle
A runny tasteless jelly with a bland cream
The coffe in the thermos was hardly warm when we asked a young lad for milk We got a thimble sized pot . And told they had run out of milk.
In the end we ate what trout we could peel off the paper successfully.
A little chicken.there was a small wedge of very good cheddar and a few waffer biscuits
A tiny pot of chutney
Or half bottle alcohol free sparkling wine was very nice .
We have had these picnics in the past they were very good this one was completely awful. And not worth over £200.
Some one gave out blankets against the cold winds 5 mins before the end of the interval.
I asked the young boy to find some one to talk to about our picnic. No one came before we had to return to the auditorium.
And no time after the opera as we had to get to our coach for the train.back to London.
This was on the 22 June. 2925.
I have often had these picnics before never anything so awful
I did write to the dining manager. When I returned toAmsterdam I never received a reply
Damey8679 Went for a few drinks in the bar area which was a lovely atmosphere, very cosy. Then we went and sat in the restaurant area for food. We know Cheffie from the Farmers, so knew the food would be amazing and he didnt disappoint. The pork belly with dauphinoise potatoes on the specials was incredible. Starters and desserts were delicious also. In addition the staff were so lovely and friendly and made us feel so welcome. Shout out to Lucy. Will definitely be going back soon.
Teoni Comiskey After a few bad experiences, I hadn’t used for a while, but tonight I ordered a prawn purée and garlic chilli chicken… both were just flawless.
Matt Hobbs Went for Sunday lunch at short notice today. Excellent service with nice cosy roaring open fire with relaxed country ambiance. Picture postcard quaint Sussex village setting. Good value Sunday roasts generously portioned with nice selection of sides. Recommended.
