3 /5 Michael Blair: Stopped by Tortilla at Russell Square for a quick bite. The staff were friendly, though a bit confused at times—I was asked if I wanted “cheese or cheese sauce,” and when I said “cheese,” they still double-checked as if I meant sauce. Not a big deal, but a little off.
The food itself was underwhelming. I had a bowl with white rice, pinto beans, beef, and chicken, and everything just felt a bit bland. The meats were just warm because they’d been sitting in bins—nothing is freshly cooked or particularly flavorful.
I did get the tortilla chips, though, and those were honestly the star of the meal—crispy, fresh, and flavorful. The chips were the one thing I’d happily have again.
There’s street seating and two levels inside, so finding a place to sit wasn’t a problem. But honestly, I wouldn’t go back. With so many great places to eat in London, it’s hard to justify returning somewhere that was just average.
