Buenos Aires Cafe - (Near Greenwich, South East)

3 /5 Lorenz Fischer: We visited as a group of five on a Friday evening. Upon arrival, we were seated in the basement area, where unfortunately there was a noticeable draft and a strong smell of urine, likely coming from the nearby toilets, which did not seem to have been recently cleaned. The basement bar was also unattended, making it difficult to order drinks, as staff understandably spent most of their time upstairs in the main restaurant area. Our starters — a mixed platter and bread — were enjoyable, and we appreciated the attentive staff member who later offered to move us upstairs for our mains, which was a thoughtful gesture. Unfortunately, the main courses were disappointing. We ordered fillets, steaks, and a mixed platter. While the fillets were good, some of the steaks were quite chewy. More surprisingly, the meat was served on completely bare plates, without any garnish, sauce, or vegetables — not even a small touch such as herbs. Although we had ordered sides (fries and spinach), for £35+ per steak we expected more care and presentation from the kitchen. We were also surprised to be charged £5 for bread, as well as £2.50 each for very small portions of mayonnaise and chimichurri. Given the already premium pricing and the minimal presentation, the overall approach felt lacking in generosity. Overall, the experience did not reflect the strong reputation the restaurant appears to have built in the past. It felt as though cost control may now be taking precedence over the guest experience — which is disappointing, as one senses this may not always have been the case. Regrettably, we are unlikely to return.

5 /5 Amiel Barrimond: Buenos Aires Cafe had me smiling like I got away with something, and maybe I did. That steak mix platter... pure gold, like they smuggled it out of a vault. Every bite felt a little sinful, the good kind that keeps you quiet for a second. Service rolled in smooth, like they knew they had me hooked. If you go, go hungry... and ready to brag about it after.

5 /5 Warren Evans: I took my better half and kids for her birthday on the 10th October 2025. The service was excellent and they were very attentive. The four of us shared a Plato Mixto, which was plenty given that we intended to have 3 courses. I had the 400g Bife ancho (Rib eye), whereas my partner had the 400g Bife de chorizo (Sirloin). Both were excellent cuts and tasted great. Hers was cooked medium rare whilst I had mine medium. Mine was probably closer to medium rare given the thickness of the steak, but delicious none the less. I also had my steak a caballo’ as I am greedy bugger. My daughter wasnt particularly hungry, so had Empanada for main and my son had the Brochetas de lomo (skewered beef and veg). Both commented how good their food was, although my son had a decent chuck of my rib eye (the portion defeated me). The accompanying chimichurri was great. All of this was washed down with a variety of beers and wine. We should have left it there, as the food up until this point was excellent. The only disappointment was the pudding. The chocolate fudge cake was as dry as a beef bone, only made palatable with the ice cream. Shame. However, it didnt detract from what was a smashing night, as the overall experience was brilliant and we will definitely return (we have been several times before). If you want a expertly cooked, top quality steak, The Buenos Aires Cafe is for you.

1 /5 Lai: Awful experience here a few weeks back. I wanted to type up our full experience but its not even worth it. The pictures should let you know - they claimed this was medium. This is how all three of our steaks were served. Didnt listen to us when we expressed our issues and owner escalated the issue to barring us. Regardless, we would never have returned again.

3 /5 CL V: Came here for the first time and really enjoyed all our starters, unfortunately that was where it ended. Ordered the T-bone medium rare and it came out very well done, waitress tried telling us the longer we leave it on the table the more it would cook itself when steaks are meant to rest up to 15mins (it was on a chopping block not hot stone) they gave us a sirloin steak as an alternative as there was no more T-bone available. They gave us the over cooked T-bone anyway and told us this was going to be on the house, however they did not remove it from our bill and when we challenged this they asked us if we would be happy to at least pay for the sirloin steak that was offered. All in all we had a ok meal minus the well done steak but we probably still wouldn’t return or recommend.
