Hutong - (Near Southwark, South East)

4 /5 Noreen: The staff and the overall aesthetic of Hutong is wonderful. We felt very relaxed with two tables booked for a special occasion and we had one teen and a 12 year old too. We arrived early to enjoy the views and relax in the bar. The staff were very helpful and accommodating so our tables were close together and we felt very welcome. Our orders were taken but it wasnt until my table were selecting more started did we relate our other table hadn’t been served . Their ticket had been lost. The staff were quick chase the order and on request by me served that table with a complimentary drink. At the end of the meal all their drinks (just two each) were taken off the final bill which was gratefully recieved. We were not in a hurry so it wasn’t a great inconvenience. The starters were collective better than the main dishes. And the Christmas editions were a little odd although my youngest loved their take on pigs in blankets. I enjoyed their steamed Turkey but others felt it was like ham. It was very good value considering the location but go for the view and the starters and accept the mains are okay.

4 /5 Dru Hayashi: Dinner at Hutong on a misty and chilly evening yesterday meant we unfortunately couldn’t enjoy the famous skyline views. The interior is beautiful, so we were looking forward to the experience. Service was a bit of a mixed bag. The lady serving our table, Dragana was lovely, attentive and friendly throughout the evening. However, the wine service was disappointing. We had hoped for some recommendations, but the wine connoisseur seemed uninterested and took quite a while to come to our table. By the time he arrived, our food had already been served, so we ended up choosing a bottle ourselves, which thankfully turned out to be decent. For food, we ordered the half Peking duck (£70), served in two courses. While it was nicely presented, the portion for the duck felt quite small for the price. It was perfectly edible but didn’t quite deliver the quality or wow factor we were expecting. The steamed dim sum platter was the highlight of the meal. The dumpling skins were thin and delicate, and the fillings were generous and well balanced. As the portions overall felt on the smaller side, we also ordered the king prawns with garlic and onion. The dish came with four prawns with overpowering raw-ish onions which overwhelm the tastebuds after a few bites. Overall, we’re glad we experienced Hutong and can say we’ve tried it, but the food was more decent than memorable and the wine service didn’t quite match expectations for a restaurant at this level. It’s not somewhere we’d rush back to anytime soon.

5 /5 Angela Dsouza: The food was really tasty and the portion sizes were quite generous, which made the meal very satisfying. The service was a bit slow at the start, but the staff was polite and courteous. If only I had a better suggestion of the view would be happier. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely consider visiting again. I would like to suggest that the coordinator handling the booking could be a bit quicker in responding to emails. That said, I appreciate the assistance provided and hope this feedback helps improve the service further.

5 /5 Oyindamolla: I had the most incredible dining experience at Hutong! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel truly welcome. The host who greeted me was so kind and attentive ..he even complimented me, which immediately made me feel special. Although my first table didn’t have the view I hoped for, the staff were amazing. As soon as a table with a view became available, they moved me there without hesitation, ensuring I had the best possible experience. Every member of the team went above and beyond to make me and my date feel comfortable. The service was premium in every sense, thoughtful, attentive, and genuinely warm. The atmosphere is stunning, the interior is beautiful, and the views from Level 33 are absolutely breathtaking. The cocktails were amazing! I can’t recommend Hutong highly enough whether for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself, this is one of London’s most unforgettable dining experiences.

The setting is undoubtedly the highlight — the panoramic views over the River Thames create a calm and memorable backdrop that elevates even a simple visit. I visited around lunchtime, and the atmosphere was relaxed and not overly crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It felt like a good moment to pause, take in the view, and unwind before heading to the airport. The cocktail was well made, balanced, and nicely presented, meeting expectations for a venue of this level. Service was professional and smooth, and the overall ambiance felt polished without being too formal during the daytime. While Hutong is often known for its dining experience, it also works well as a spot for a refined drink with a view. Overall, a good experience and a worthwhile stop if you’re visiting The Shard and want to enjoy a cocktail overlooking the Thames in London.
