Market Cafe - (Near Hackney, South East)

5 /5 George H: I was recommended this spot by a friend and Ive just had a wonderful lunch here. The burger is DELICIOUS and I couldnt recommend it enough. They offered me some hot sauce with my meal which I later found out was home made by the owner! It was amazing! What a touch! Really lovely staff, quick service and very nice vibe. (p.s. they sell the hot sauce in house...I bought two bottles)

1 /5 Amelie: I had a coffee on the patio and the staff we had was not very friendly at all. It felt like he was annoyed that we were asking for service. He was inpatient with us when we took a second to respond to what we wanted. He got us to pay right when he brought us the drinks which was totally fine. We asked to each get our own bills and he was visibly annoyed to do so. I got my bill and the total was written and there was a line that added an OPTIONAL service charge. The menu had stated that the tip was discretionary. Given the level of service I decided to give a 10% tip , which I still think is generous given the service I received, instead of the 20% it suggested on the bill given the attitude we got from the waiter. I gave him the money. Then the server came back and forced me to pay the full discretionary tip which I thought was soooo unprofessional and rude. When it said it was optional to pay that amount! I would never return here or recommend anyone to do the same. I also say him sternly telling other people off for moving the patio chairs to be in the sun. The whole situation just put me off. There are plenty of other places around and I would suggest going to any other cute cafe.

3 /5 devkan: It was an okay experience here but I cant say it was good. No problem with the staff or customer service they were all lovely but the food wasnt it. Croquettes tasted really dry and it only made it nearly good with the sauce next to the croquette, however the chicken was really nice. Just dont think the blue cheese dressing was a good fit for the chicken.

5 /5 Ayla Smith: A staple of the community. Market Cafe is one of those places that truly gets everything right. The service is consistently top tier — warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming. I’m always a little hesitant now that we’re travelling with our four-month-old baba into social settings. Not all London restaurants are accommodating when it comes to little ones, but these guys get it right every single time. The demographic of the cafe is a testament to that. People meeting parents. People on dates. People with babies. Girls’ lunches that have started with their first Prosecco. It’s all here at Market Cafe. They cater to the community in a way that feels genuinely unique — and uniquely Hackney. The menu is varied, the quality of the food is outstanding, and the price point is incredibly reasonable for the area. And if you’re into a boozy brunch, their cocktails are delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it a true neighbourhood favourite and a key part of Broadway Market and London Fields. Couldn’t recommend it more.

1 /5 Astrid Obermayer: Horrible attitude from staff, this place is everything wrong with what Hackney has become. No sense of community, respect or kindness. So many better places in the area, spend your ££ at other (cheaper) venues w better vibes, better food & no 20% service charge for horrible service lol
