The Devonshire - (Near Westminster, South East)

4 /5 Alistair Hoyle: Clearly one of, if not the most popular spot in London right now. Every floor is packed with people and the downstairs bar is so busy everyone is spilling in droves out onto Piccadilly. The Guiness is exceptional, as good as Dublin and the food delicious. We did the set menu and ordered two mains - pork chop and half lobster. The prawn cocktail isnt anything to sensationlise on the set menu but everything else tasted fantastic especially the lobster. My steak had some blood leak which suggested it shouldve been rested longer. The service is ok. We felt somewhat neglected as a two due to the larger tables around us, its a chaotic environment. Wed booked for 8pm, were seated at 8.10pm and the pre made cold starter came at 9pm, it also took 20 minutes for it to be cleared. So its ambitious for them to say its a two hour dining experience. Theres also only two gender neutral toilets which means there ends up being a big queue into the restaurant. Our bill came to £150, we were grateful to have a £50 voucher. For the price Im not sure wed return, wed much rather return to the one michelin starred Oma as their bustle is energised rather than chaos and their service exceptional. Difficult not to compare considering the price point.

4 /5 DC: You visit the Devonshire when you can get a table rather than exactly when you want to eat, and we happily took a late 3pm lunch slot. Despite the time, the restaurant was buzzing. We were seated quickly and the service was friendly, if a little rushed at times. Our table was near the till in a tightly packed dining room, but the atmosphere remained pleasant and didn’t detract from the experience. We started with a well-priced bottle of grower champagne, Georges Vesselle Grand Cru (£87), and ordered. The unlimited Parker House rolls were excellent, soft, warm and impossible to resist. The scallops had good flavour, though they arrived a little cooler than ideal, and the ribeye was tasty but not especially memorable. The beef cheek and Guinness suet pudding was a standout, rich, comforting and perfectly executed. We finished with a sticky toffee pudding that was truly outstanding. Overall, it’s a place I would return to, ideally in the main grill room, and with minor refinements it could feel even more polished. Busy and popular, it delivers a strong experience despite the pace, and the food more than justifies a visit.

4 /5 Craig B: Sunday roast - service and atmosphere absolutely exceptional. The roast however was a little bit underwhelming. We were the first sitting at 12pm so no excuse. The beef is served ‘medium rare’ but it arrives more like blue, not a problem for us carnivores as the texture is still enjoyable but the meat lacked any warmth, was essentially a cold unseasoned slab of meat. The fat on the beef (a large quantity of it) inedible due to undercooking, which normally as carnivores we’d have also enjoyed. Veg served lukewarm. The roast potatoes and gravy were great. Scallops as a starter are a standout with all sorts of great flavours working together. Bloody Marys, and obviously the Guinness, exceptional. Would definitely come back for dinner due to the ambience/service, but will take a pass on the roast again.

5 /5 Audrey Teo: Brilliant meal sitting on the roof terrace on a slightly drizzly day. They have heaters so it was very pleasant. Steaks were perfectly aged and grilled to perfection. The bearnaise sauce portion at first appeared too small but it was so rich that the small portion was actually perfect. The Iberico ribs starter was very yummy too. Very tender and the glaze was well-balanced. The service was very friendly and warm.

5 /5 Yannis Themelidis: A fantastic night out from start to finish. The dining room is beautiful and the atmosphere warm and inviting, though the seating is slightly tight. Every dish was expertly executed. The skirt steak was tender with perfectly crisp chips, and the scallops and prawn salad were fresh and full of flavour. The sticky toffee pudding was a real highlight—rich, indulgent, and beautifully balanced between sweet and salty. Attentive service, a delicious red wine, and a well-priced menu made it an experience we’d happily repeat.
