The Ox - (Near Lambeth, South East)

5 /5 Dadrien Barnes: I had a great time at the Ox. The food and drinks were good and our server, Michael, was great as well. It was my first time here (and first time for Sunday roast), and Ill definitely be back.

5 /5 T Raw: Ordered a medium-rare steak which was cooked perfectly for me and packed with flavour. The sides were decent but not outstanding, that being said, they complemented the meal well. The peppercorn sauce was a nice touch, and everything went down smoothly with a cold pint. I’d come back to try another cut of steak as I thoroughly enjoyed that. They also dimmed the lights whilst we were there which gave it a nice chilled mood.

4 /5 Anton Ego: A most pleasant surprise. The room itself hums with a quiet warmth — a rare thing, born not of pretense but of genuine hospitality. The staff move with an ease that speaks of confidence rather than performance. The so-called “small bar bites” proved an elegant prelude, teasing the palate with promise. Yet it was the salt and pepper squid that truly commanded attention — crisp, tender, and perfectly judged. The miso salmon and feather of beef followed with conviction, each dish revealing a kitchen unafraid to balance comfort with craft. A meal, in short, that satisfies both the critic and the soul.

4 /5 Rebecca Willis: We came for a roast. First impressions: gorgeous decor, cosy vibes. Most of the tables (ours included) have these big armchairs - which look lovely and are comfortable but a bit low down to eat from. We had the chicken and the beef, with a side of the truffled cauliflower cheese. Chicken was lovely (although the breast a little dry), fab rich gravy, cabbage, greens etc. The roast potato (of which there was only one on my plate!) was sadly undercooked and solid, as was the parsnip. The cauliflower cheese was lovely and cheesy. For dessert we each had sticky toffee pudding. Delish generous portion of the pudding but only a tiny little scoop of ice cream! A bit more would have been great. All in all a fab place and lovely roast - a few tweaks away from being great.
