5 /5 John Duffy: Had a lovely meal here yesterday. All food clearly cooked from scratch. Monkfish risotto, tick. Salmon wellington, tick. Fish’n’chips, tick. Chicken schnitzel no problem despite it only being on the lunch menu, double tick. And all with a smile. I should warn you, however, that neither partridge nor dog appear on the menu. But then I guess I’ve eaten at plenty of golden lions over the years and only one served lion (cod lion, if I recall correctly), so maybe names no longer matter? If you’re dillying, stop it. Book up and eat here.

5 /5 steven killick: I was so impressed, and very much looking forward to coming back soon. So many other things Id like to try on the menu. Plus, I did get food evny when my partner ordered the monkfish curry. We ordered the Duck Ragu, Monkfish curry and kids fish and chips, the taste, quality and quantity were all excellent. For those who appreciate wine, I recommend the Rioja, which was fantastic, especially with the duck. Service was very welcoming and really friendly, the staff were great and very kind to my partners son. So big tick on the family-friendly front. Plus, the back garden with the fountain is beautiful, almost felt like we were at a holiday place. Thank you so much, looking forward to a second visit soon.

5 /5 Lesley Elding: Visited on an early Friday evening and managed to get a table without booking. Settled down for tea and I ordered a rib eye steak which came with garlic butter and fries on the side. I like my steak well done and this was cooked to perfection. Only complaint was that the butter didnt taste of garlic at all. My partner had the monkfish and prawn curry which he said was very good. Pudding was raspberry pavlova for me and baked fig cheesecake for him. Both good and the pavlova was light and delicious. I would have preferred thick cream to the light one but thats personal preference. Genuinely surprised by how lovely this place was. The decor is great and the staff are too. Prices are expensive for me but nothing out the ordinary for the area and worth it for the warm feel of the place. Would love to return.
