Andy Wong Popped by for a quick lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Lovely restaurant, and the food is top notch for the price. I had the mushroom risotto and it was hearty and flavoursome, pairing well with the South African Chardonnay on their menu. The complimentary bread board was a pleasant surprise as well. Total bill came up to £25.50. If you visit the Historic Dockyard museums, Id seriously recommend checking this place out!

Alexander Fergusson-Cooper If I could give this place one star I would... They have ruined pizza for me, it was by far the best Ive had, no other will compare. My partner and I shared the nduja/scotch bonnet and the chicken/paneer. Both were truly superb. The dough had a terrific flavour, but the toppings on each were perfectly balanced and flavoursome. We started with the cauliflower hummus - something we await to recreate! The service was outstanding, knowledgeable and friendly, without being over the top, again, a perfect balance. Wine list fantastic and comprehensive (the reason we came here - (fathers a wine merchant!) maître d was knowledgeable and showed us the bottle of wine we were curious about. Atmosphere was warm, welcoming, relaxed, and the use of acoustic tiles on the ceiling work as both an interesting feature and more importantly to reduce the sound in the bar/restaurant. I am hugely disappointed we are only in Portsmouth for an evening - had we live in the vicinity, we would surely adopt The A Bar as a regular venue. A venue for everyone, we were made to feel like long standing customers - warm and welcoming. If ever in Portsmouth again, we will rush back!

Mohammed Nijamudeen First time having a jacket potato at a restaurant and I have to say it was better than expected. I went for the garlic chilli chicken and it was really tasty with a good depth of flavour. The tram sauce was spot on. All in all well worth the hype. The only thing was it wasn’t quite as hot as expected. I was a bit surprised to see it fairly quiet for a Saturday evening especially on the high street just a week after opening.

Summit to Sea I’m a bit “old fashioned” and being at sea nearly 35 years I do like a good maritime pub. I’ve been in Portsmouth 3 months and I have enjoyed the service and food here at the Ship A! The staff work hard and at times are ran ragged. This is a proud pub with its roots in maritime heritage and the Union flag. Love this place so much I bought the T-shirt.

Christine and Julia, who served us during our visit, were both incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. They made us feel genuinely welcome, checked in regularly without being intrusive, and ensured that everything we needed was taken care of promptly. Their positive attitude and friendly approach truly added a personal touch to our dining experience. The food was equally impressive — beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavour. The menu offered a good variety of options, and everything we ordered arrived on time and tasted delicious. It was clear that care had been taken in both preparation and presentation. Overall, Zizzi delivered not only great food but also outstanding service, thanks especially to Christine and Julia. Their hospitality made our visit memorable and enjoyable from start to finish. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience with excellent customer care.
