Fish, Wings and Tings - Lambeth

Rating: 4.1 /5
McCarthy Sam “SJ” Flavoursome, fiery with a serious love for ginger. Fish wings and tings, located in Brixton village can be described as a staple restaurant in the area brought to us by the Owner Brian Danclair and brilliant dishes by Chef Aunty May. Said to be some of the best Caribbean food in London spreading joy and love with every bite. Brian even has his own line hot sauces that are free to try at the restaurants. Brian was making the rounds saying hello to everyone there me and my friends had a short conversation with him and he told us how his original restaurant has been there for around 15 years and he now has three restaurants opened in that area and their all packed. It’s great to see someone so invested in the area getting their flowers .Aunty May was so lovely too she came to check up on us and made sure everything was good. Big shout out to our server as well who was running around trying I meet everyone’s needs on such a busy Friday night. I tried their Reggae wings, Salt fish fritters, and jerk chicken today with their sweet but refreshing fruit punch. Their wings were fiery, with a bit of sweetness from their pineapple, mango and ginger chutney. A strong start to the meal, it had a bit of kick you don’t often find unless you go to eat at certain places nothing unbearable but a nice heat that reminds of home cooking. The Salt fish fritters were GOOD and this is coming from someone that doesn’t even like fish but I was willing to give it a try and I was shocked at how tasty it was. It wasn’t oily it felt very fresh, well crispy on the coating and the ginger and like aioli was banging. If you come here this start is a must get. The jerk chicken and rice and peas were good had that pineapple, mango and chutney on the side a bit coleslaw and salad. The chicken was succulent but I wish it had a bit more of that fiery kick that those reggae wings had. I also wish it had a bit more coleslaw overall it was tasty but it wasn’t my favourite thing that I ate. If they had that chicken with the reggae sauce then we got something serious but it’s still good. I definitely recommend this place so if you have never tried it i recommend you shimmy your way down to Brixton village and try it out !

San Marino Brixton - Lambeth

Sabrina S I’ve been coming to San Marino in Brixton for years and it has always been one of my absolute favourite spots. It’s a family-run cafĂ© and you really feel that warmth every time you walk in — the staff are genuinely welcoming and make you feel at home. The food is consistently amazing, especially the breakfasts, which are some of the best in Brixton. Everything is always fresh, well-cooked and generous, and it’s the kind of place you can rely on every single time. I’ve brought friends and family here over the years and it’s always the first place I recommend. I also love that they now have a bar in the evenings — the cocktails and atmosphere are brilliant and it’s become my go-to spot before and after gigs. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. Always leave happy, full, and already planning the next visit.

Alfie Whitten I came in today to get a Matcha latte, and although I felt that the drinks (i got a matcha latte and a beer) were rather on the expensive side, it was no matter as I was met with lovely service from the young woman (purple hair) working. The drinks were made quickly and well. She was well mannered and a great server, very friendly and a brilliant rep for the place.

Ettas Kitchen - Lambeth

patrick jacobs Oh wow, wow, wow, what a fantastic place and what a fantastic owner and what fantastic food, I really can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. The greeting as we walked in was as if we were family coming around for dinner. I saw this place on Tik Tok and decided to take my daughter on a father daughter lunch date. We met at Brixton underground station and took the short walk to Etta’s Seafood Kitchen, don’t get me wrong it can be hard to find, but ask anyone once you get into the village and they will direct you. She’s been there for seventeen years so it’s well established. The strange thing is I only discovered it a day ago. Make this part of your day out because there is so much shopping you can do in the village. Ok so I was lucky because I had my daughter with me to confirm that the food was great, the inside of the restaurant is very eclectic and homely you literally feel as if you are in someone’s home and they are cooking just for you. I really wanted to treat my daughter so we went for the platter and ooohh it was so nice, it took a while but the food was being cooked fresh so the wait made sense. Don’t go there if you are in a hurry this is not a fast food joint, just make sure you have time to take in the atmosphere and enjoy the experience. The seating inside is decent and seating outside feels like you are inside because its covered, don’t be surprised if you turn up and its full, I can imagine that it could be based on everything I’ve said. While we were there the customers who came seemed as if they were regulars which is really reassuring. Back to the food, the platter is shown on my photos, its served with a glass of wine, I gave that to my daughter, somehow they noticed that and sent out a second glass, that was such a lovely touch. On the platter we had, calamari, crab legs, fried plantain, fried cod, prawns, little dumplings, akee and salt fish, and some great sauces. We also ordered the pepper prawns and mac & cheese, which was cheesy and creamy at the same time. Etta tries not to cook with too much pepper so if you want it with a kick just ask. We had a fantastic experience, because to our delight Etta took a break and sat with us and told us her story. She started with just ten pounds, “incredible and inspiring” now seventeen years later, here she still is. The food is well cooked and full of flavour and the atmosphere is truly homely and comfortable. Both my daughter and I loved every fork-full and will be back and will be sending as many people as possible to support this unique and exceptional independent fish restaurant. I will be back for sure and I know i will be greeted like a friend coming for dinner.

Lionel T Tasty Caribbean fusion food at reasonable price. Big portions - 3 tapas dishes was too much for one person! Staff are friendly and the owner stops for a chat with patrons. King prawns, cod fritters and empanadas were tasty.
