Traveler Best food in the town. Reasonable price and good service. Only opens 3 days a week from Friday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm at Gascogine Road and Mondays - Tuesdays at Barking Market. Chicken Tikka and Chip box (Chilli and tamarind sauce with lots of salad on the top) with Tamarind drink is my favourite food only cost ÂŁ6 (ÂŁ5 for box and ÂŁ1 for drink). (Tip: Pls mix a bit water in the Tamarind drink for bit normal task otherwise its bit sugary)

Kimberly Wong Came for dinner with some relatives visiting from abroad. Alexandra our waitress was lovely and professional. Food was good but I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve ever had. Still highly recommend!

Rashideen Khan I’ve lived nearby for 15 years and have been ordering from Happy Inn all this time. It’s the best Chinese restaurant in our southeast area. The chicken wings and the king prawn chow mein are especially good — I order them every time. The food is always served piping hot and has a real home-style feel. Their chili oil is homemade, incredibly fresh, and properly spicy. The atmosphere is also great: air-conditioned in summer and heater in winter. I like chatting with the staff — it’s very relaxing.

Mrs. John Steep hill cove is one of my favourite places. The tide was in when we visited so a lot of the tables couldn’t be used but the staff were very helpful and despite of some very rude customers, they were polite and efficient. The crab sandwich was very nice and so was the tea but the location is perfect.

Margarita Shalit Step through the gate and you’re instantly wrapped in a wonderfully old English atmosphere. The gardens are gorgeous—lush, carefully tended, and clearly more than just decoration. You can taste that kitchen-garden freshness on the plate: crisp greens, vibrant herbs, and produce that feels like it was picked just moments before service. The food is simple in the best way—seasonal, honest, and beautifully prepared—letting those natural flavors take center stage. Fresh berries, apple juice, honey… Service is warm and unhurried, inviting you to linger and soak in the scenery. It’s the kind of place where a long lunch feels perfectly acceptable and a stroll through the grounds afterward feels almost required. If you love garden-to-table cooking and timeless charm, this spot delivers both with grace. I asked for a recommendation for a salon to do my evening hairstyle: at one “good” hotel they handed me a list of addresses. At Gravetye, they immediately booked me an appointment at a convenient time and arranged a taxi to the salon. It’s in details like these that you feel the difference between a good hotel and a truly excellent one: initiative, attention to detail, and genuine care for the guest. If you value comfort and service that takes worries off your hands, Gravetye is the perfect choice.

Alan King Josh was just the best host! We went there following a trip to see the big man on the Bluebell railway yesterday. Josh explained that he’d only opened up for some the local workers on the trading estate but welcomed 6-adults and 4 2/3-year olds in even whipping up some fantastic soup and freshly baked mozzarella topped focaccia that he’d done especially for us. Thank you Josh. Top man!
