3 /5 D: Victoria Square is a small, perfectly kept residential square… and entirely private. Framed by grand, stucco-fronted houses and centred around a statue of Queen Victoria, the square looks immaculate through the railings, permanently locked, as far as I can tell. I’ve certainly never seen it open to the public. Unless you live in one of the surrounding properties (or know someone who does), this space remains off-limits, like so many other central London gardens. That said, it’s a small space, so there isn’t much lost behind the fence. More of a visual curiosity than a hidden gem. I’ll be honest - there’s not much to “do” here. But if youre like me, it’s worth a walk-by if youre interested in London’s quiet layers of visibility and invisibility, where even a green square in the heart of the city can be polished, pristine … and just out of reach.
Worth noting: at the end of the square, you’ll find the Goring Hotel, home to the Michelin-starred Dining Room, which I wholeheartedly recommend (though fair warning, it’s not a casual lunch spot!).
