1 /5 Antonia Fawcett: distinctly average food, overcooked and swimming in a gunky sauce with no flavour served in a bowl. Bowls are for babies or dessert.
Unimaginative vegetables of boiled new potatoes with skins on and French beans, all in all a thoroughly poor dining experience.
Such a shame as Marlborough is crying out for a really good French bistro.
2 /5 Nikki D.: Ok not great experience! Even though the downstairs was lovely almost like a little easy night bar feel we were turned away from there and had to sit upstairs. Not bad decor and atmosphere but sadly the service was bad. Not only they had no idea about any of the drinks on offer but when they arrived there was no garnish, straw, nothing! A little slice of lemon or a rosemary sprig with a straw goes a long way. Just a thought! We won’t be back! Went to the Tap before and it was amazing!
5 /5 Phil Chamberlain: Had lunch for three and it was a great find.
A simple menu that covered all the bases. We had garlic mushrooms in a creamy sauce and chicken liver pate for starters. Very good. Two types of tart and a prawn and tuna chowder (pictured) for the main. Apple pie and tiramisu for pudding.
Good portion sizes, full of flavour and fresh.
The staff worked hard and there was a cosy atmosphere at this top of the high street location.
Highly recommend.
5 /5 Ally B: Cest magnifique! Small, attractive bistro offering a limited menu of freshly cooked food - the menu changes daily. The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The portion sizes were generous and it was very good value for money. Booking is advisable, due to limited space.
3 /5 Steve Botting: Called in lunch. Lovely quaint restaurant with french music quietly playing in the background. The staff were lovely… asked if was my first time and explained the specials board to me.
I ordered the Beef Provençale. Sadly it was incredibly basic and was more like a cottage pie (with rice instead of mash). The beef they used was mince rather than braising beef which is not what I was expecting. Would you serve a beef bourguignon using mince?!? Simple answer is no. I felt rather cheated but didn’t want to raise an issue as the staff were so lovely.
Would certainly go again but next time ask about the ingredients they’re using. Sorry for the indifferent review guys but serving mince with this dish is a no no.
Tim Hood Proof the Masterchef judges got it right!
We had Sunday lunch here and it was the best we’ve ever had, with the added bonus of some Michelin quality starters and deserts. Had a quick chat with Tom the owner who is a lovely guy and deserves the support of anyone who believes in top quality, good honest food and backing UK’s small businesses. Go there and be happy!
Shantanu Rahman I have been in the UK for more than 20 years now. Being originally from India, I never had a great experience in any Indian cuisine restaurant here in the UK. They all try to bring a weird taste to Indian cuisine thinking that would cater well to British and migrated Asian palate better.
But I have to admit that I had an amazing experience and joy when I visited The Zaika Inn at Marlborough last week. The food is simply mind-blowing! You can rarely get this sort of fabulous food even in extremely high-end 5 star hotels and restaurants in India. The taste, presentation and quality of service was exemplary. The menu is so original and food is prepared with fresh, authentic spices. I even had the privilege of talking to the owner and Chef, Mr Biswas. He is such a passionate restaurateur. His love for cooking and serving his customers is easily palpable and that is the USP of The Zaika Inn. I strongly recommend this restaurant to all. If you have not visited this place then you have not tasted real Indian cuisine.
Daniel Lane Pub grub at its flavoursome, big-portioned, piping-hot finest. We had a wander round the stones at Avebury and topped up on some spiritualism, and this was the slap up delicious hot dinner we needed to see off the cold December day. Fire was burning, the pub dog was very welcoming, and the staff were lovely. 100% recommend. It even has a book exchange. Top stuff.
Michael Hontoir What a great pub! Dog friendly, with many dog patrons!
We revisited today for lunch and had such a wonderful experience, the service was excellent, the food was really tasty, everything was a notch about that you’d expect at a pub, and the speed of service was unexpectedly quick too. Looking forward to returning.
Jack Murphy Im not normally one for leaving revues but i believe in credit when its due. I just collected a rather large order for take away. I actually made a mistake with my order and the owner went out for his way to rectify that free of charge the food was exceptional everyone was so happy with what they had ordered. The takeaway orders are a reasonably decent amount for the price. So all in all a very satisfying experience. Would recommend and will definitely be back. Thanks guys
