The cooking consistently reflects a deep respect for biodynamic and responsibly sourced produce, executed with confidence and restraint. The Sunday roast is a personal highlight and, quite simply, one of the best in the area: exemplary meat, beautifully cooked vegetables, and a sense that every element belongs on the plate. Equally impressive is the fish cooking, which is precise, elegant, and reliably spot-on — a clear sign of a kitchen that understands technique as well as ingredients. Thoughtful food, calm assurance, and a clear culinary identity. A five-star local institution.

5 /5 Megan Harding: We came here for our anniversary and had a really lovely experience. Can definitely recommend the Sunday set menu. All of the food was delicious - the dishes were a mix of creative and different, but also traditional and hearty. Service and atmosphere were great too. They added candles to our dessert and wished us a happy anniversary, which was a really sweet touch. Would love to come back here again.

5 /5 Maryana Zvarych: We had a wonderful dining experience! The Beef Wellington set menu was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully presented. The staff’s wine recommendation paired perfectly with the meal and really elevated the whole experience. Everyone was attentive and welcoming, making us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. The cosy, warm atmosphere of the restaurant made it an ideal spot for a rainy autumn evening — comfortable, inviting, and full of charm.

3 /5 Genevieve Farrell: We went to the black lamb for a celebration meal and it was ok but felt so things could be improved for the price point. The setting is inside is lovely and cosy, but would say some of the tables are placed a little too close together. They also used paper napkins rather than linen - which didn’t really align with the price point of the meal. We opted for the beef wellington set menu. The beef wellington main was really delicious, but we had a slight issue when we asked if it came with any vegetables and was told no and so added on some seasonal greens. When the wellington did come out, it did in fact already come with some greenery and then about 5-10 mins later they brought out a salad rather than seasonal greens. They apologised for the mistake and it wasn’t included on the bill. The sharing starters were nice but it wasn’t clear the two sharing plates were going to be brought out separately - a waiter explaining how the food would come out at the start of the meal could be nice addition to avoid this. We also felt the two sharing cold plates were both quite “wet” dishes and adding on some lovely bread or similar would be a welcomed addition. On the whole it was nice but with a few tweaks it would be excellent.

5 /5 Chris Coughlan: First time visiting this restaurant and had a wonderful birthday meal! We went for the Tasting Menu including wine. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted great. A fantastic showcase of British produce and cooking. The pacing and overall volume of food was just right and the wine pairings worked really well. The service from Annabelle was very friendly and relaxed. Looking forward to a return visit!
