5 /5 Lina: We came to Akatuki in Muswell Hill to celebrate our anniversary, and it was a lovely experience. They prepared a special sushi cake for us, which was such a nice touch. The food was delicious, especially the sushi. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the service was still warm and attentive. Thank you for making our evening special — highly recommended.

4 /5 Jonathan Ho: I visited on a Saturday afternoon and was surprised to find the restaurant quite empty at that time. The Black Dragon Roll was very good — definitely something I’d recommend. The seafood hotpot, however, wasn’t as enjoyable as the broth was overly sweet. The tempura was tasty, though the batter was a bit too heavy and crispy rather than light. The Sakura set was beautifully presented and looked fantastic, but the salmon sashimi was cut too thick and the cuttlefish was a little chewy. The service was lovely and our waitress was attentive throughout. That said, I would have expected more confidence around allergy information, especially as the menu instructs guests to notify staff. When asked about peanut allergies, the waitress wasn’t entirely sure whether the desserts contained nuts. To her credit, she did bring out the ingredient list, which I appreciated. Still, it would be very helpful if the restaurant had a clear allergen menu available — particularly given that there is also a Covent Garden branch.

3 /5 Christine Kim: We came for dinner as we were going to a show in Ally Pally nearby. I would say its quite average especially as it lacked a bit of authenticity and freshness. Between the two of us, we got the chicken gyoza (ok), salmon, tuna and salmon roe sashimi (didnt seem that fresh), spicy tuna roll (ok) and the black dragon roll (this was the favourite). For dessert, we got the matcha millecrepe and the black sesame ice cream.

5 /5 Holly Wilson: I can’t even put into words how incredible Akatuki is. My partner had just come back from working in Tokyo and was craving Japanese food so we came here for a date night. This place went above and beyond our expectations. The staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Excellent service. The food was out of this world. We ended up ordering extra, we were just too tempted! The carpaccio was especially sensational but every single dish had a unique twist and just melted in your mouth. Genuinely the best scallops I have EVER had, we ordered double! We are newly local so will be back soon. Phenomenal restaurant.

5 /5 Beatrice Limonti: An exceptional experience at Akatuki in Covent Garden…The atmosphere is refined yet welcoming, and the service was genuinely attentive. I started with the seafood tartare, which was fresh and delicately seasoned, followed by the grilled eel donburi, which was beautifully balanced in flavour and texture. Everything was presented with great care. A lovely spot for quality Japanese cuisine in a relaxed and elegant setting. I will definitely return.
