3 /5 J: Three of us ate at this pub this evening 17th January 2026.
We booked earlier in the day, trying to get a table for approx. 19:30 - 20:00. Was told a large group were dining at about 19:30 so would be good if we could make 19:00 which we agreed with.
Turned up 5 mins early only to find they had no booking made for us. No problem they found us a table.
Service was slow, they looked under staffed and it took a while for our order to be taken. Despite a group of about 10 turning up a little later the restaurant wasnt that busy, plenty of empty tables.
Orders placed, the starters arrived and all was good, we were then told we may have to wait longer for the main course as the kitchen was very busy, still the restaurant was less than half full.
Main courses arrived, mine was a steak and ale pie, it was piping hot so I cut it open to cool only to find three small chunks of steak, the rest was gravy. After enquiring with the staff I was told the pies are bought in (hardly an excuse) but if I told our waiter they would remove it from the menu. The pie tasted good, just not happy with a few small chunks of of steak.
The staff were very friendly and the item was removed, as a further gesture of goodwill they removed another item and also knocked off 10% still.
In all, not a bad place, food was typical pub Fayre done to a standard albeit not overly good, average really.
We decided to go here due to a number of people giving a good recommendation, on this showing we wont return. I wonder how they would cope and how long the wait would be had the place been busy.
