1 /5 Ellie: Visited yesterday evening for a roast. This used to be a regular spot for us, but this was our first visit post Covid. The staff were welcoming and our server was excellent with the children, despite being clearly overstretched covering many tables.
Unfortunately, the food fell well below expectations bland, lukewarm at best and poor quality. Only the gammon was acceptable, the remaining meats were fatty and tasteless and I bit down on a piece of bone from careless carving. The sides were no better, with mac and cheese resembling plain pasta and very few vegetables.
The table hadn’t been cleaned or prepared on arrival. Although this was sorted quickly, it’s basic service that should be completed before guests are seated. At payment, we were also informed that £50 notes couldn’t be accepted as no manager was on site. Overall, standards have dropped significantly since pre-Covid and judging by the number of similar recent reviews, it’s clear this isn’t a one-off and that management have no intention of addressing these issues. At over £70 for two adult carveries, three children’s meals and drinks, the price felt excessive for the quality. We won’t be returning.
