We’re currently on holiday in Dorking and this place completely ruined our Valentine’s Day.
Our table was booked for 7pm. We arrived at 6:40pm and were met by a very rude front of house staff member (a man) who made us feel completely unwelcome. He told us we couldn’t come in and to come back at 7pm because he had “too many people to seat,” even showing us his laptop with other customers’ names on it. Not a great first impression.
We returned at 7pm, only to then queue outside in the freezing cold for another 30–35 minutes because they had clearly overbooked and weren’t seating anyone.
Once finally seated, we placed our order. My partner ordered a pint which took 40 minutes to arrive, despite us asking several times where it was. Our starters also took around 40 minutes.
At this point, we had already seen three tables walk out, and we were close to doing the same. We decided to give it a chance.
Our steaks arrived another 30 minutes later. We ordered medium-well, but both came out rare, so we had to send them back. When they returned, mine was around 80% fat. It was incredibly disappointing.
I cannot fault the other staff members.. the waiter was lovely and the girl serving drinks was also very polite and friendly. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make up for the poor organisation, overbooking, and overall service.
We will not be returning. Management seriously needs to stop overbooking tables and start focusing on customer service, because tonight was genuinely the worst meal we’ve ever had and it completely ruined our Valentine’s evening.
