2 /5 Susana Lima: We came here last year around the same time and had the mulled wine and it was lovely. However, this time we ordered the mulled wine and they put it down on the table in takeaway cups? Which we thought was so odd, since this is a wine bar, not winter wonderland. We were a bit surprised since the service was also very different from last year. We struggled to get the attention of the waiting staff and would wait around for ages before being able to order another drink. Even after ordering the drink would take ages to get to us. There was also a function room at the end of the bar. Several men at the function kept screaming and being very loud, which did ruin the atmosphere. There was no door closing the function room and separating it from the rest of the regular customers, so it was very loud and inconsiderate.

5 /5 Marianne Caldwell: When a place does the simple stuff so well you know it’s good. All I had was the steak rare and on its own with wine. This was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I had madeleines which were very kindly delivered for the birthday at the table and these were frankly the most beautiful madeleines I have ever had. Add that we came here because it dog friendly and it’s safe to say my business has been secured for years to come.

5 /5 Jonathan Silveira: Had a fantastic dinner here with my girlfriend. We shared a bottle of wine and a couple of starters — the padron peppers and the crispy cauliflower, both packed with flavour and coated in a really delicious sauce. For mains, I had the pan-grilled gurnard which was cooked perfectly, and my girlfriend loved her pan-fried chicken in a rich, tasty sauce. We finished with the chocolate fondant, which was absolutely spectacular. The staff were warm, friendly, and genuinely lovely, and the service was spot-on from start to finish. Overall, a great experience with no issues whatsoever — highly recommended.

4 /5 Lydia Rose: The wine and overall atmosphere of the bar were truly lovely, and we would certainly consider returning on a different evening with friends. Unfortunately, the service did not meet the standard we were expecting. We had booked a wine and dine reservation for 8:30pm on a Sunday and arrived slightly early. While we weren’t actually planning to eat, there was no reservation option other than wine and dine, so that’s what we selected when booking. On arrival, we weren’t greeted with a welcome, but instead with a blunt “the kitchen is closed,” delivered in a way that made us feel more like an inconvenience than valued guests. Thankfully, we hadn’t intended to dine, as this would have been extremely disappointing given the booking we had made and our effort to arrive on time. If the kitchen needed to close early, this could and should have been communicated to us prior to our arrival. Throughout our visit, the service continued to feel abrupt. Our carafe was placed down rather forcefully, and the staff appeared visibly frustrated, not just with us but with other customers as well. We only stayed for around 45 minutes and were not the last to leave. Having worked late Sunday shifts in hospitality myself, I completely understand that late bookings can be challenging. However, that frustration should never be felt by customers. If a reservation has been accepted, the kitchen should remain open accordingly, or at the very least, guests should be informed in advance. It’s a shame, as the wine and setting were wonderful but the service unfortunately detracted from what could have been a much more enjoyable experience.
