4 /5 Christine Boshelle: I had heard lots of people recommending this place for Sunday roast so it was time to try it out.
The service was great. Other than a bit of a wait to pay the bill, our waitress was super friendly and attentive.
The roasts did have several really decent items. Both the beef and pork were moist and flavoursome. The roast potatos could have been crispier, but they were good. The rest of the veg was nicely cooked and it came with a decent sized, fluffy Yorkshire pudding. Unfortunately the gravy let the side down for me. It was rather watery and without much flavour. And the cauliflower cheese was just o.k. could definitelyhave been cheesier. I would personally also have liked a bit more seasoning overall.
However the desserts were delightful. We really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and the apple pie was really wonderful. Id love to know where they source it! :) A shame that pouring cream wasnt an option with it. Id give this a 6.9.
Im definitely going back to try the pies (which looked fab) and for more apple pie! :)
The pub is dog freindly with good parking. And the bar is really very pretty.
5 /5 Tony Devlin: We recently held a wake at the star for my mum. Koebe the manager was brilliant and accommodated all our requests, even getting special beer in and allowing us to drop off and set up beforehand. The food was great and even though we had more people turn up than expected, they managed to cater for 200 people and kept the food coming. It cost us less and the food was a far better standard than anywhere we visited. Thank you again for all your help and hard work at a difficult time.
5 /5 David Equality Watters: Some of my best days of 2025 were spent at The Star ⭐️ SE18
Great food (brilliant choice, even for us fussy vegetarians), including pizza, the best fried halloumi (and plenty of it), Sunday dinner and more.
A great team of staff and the most passionately community-focussed manager.
And always a great crowd of diverse and friendly locals.
5 /5 nicola hammond: Loved this little pub. Decided to meet with family for some food. It did not disappointed.
Portions are huge. Smash burger tasted great. Halloumi starter was fab and so much of if.
Family friendly. Can take your dog in too.
Nice people in there. Really nice atmosphere
5 /5 Ella S: We booked out the top floor of the Star for my dads 70th birthday and had such a fantastic evening. Our dedicated bar staff Gracie was outstanding- she was super positive and attentive all evening and in general the vibe was just great. We pre ordered pizzas which arrived promptly and we able to decorate the room before guests arrived. Thanks so much for such a memorable evening ☺️
Gillian Lim Was there for my birthday..
Had the tasting 3 courses.. rabbit, risotto with pumpkin and beef were very good .. Bread and bread sticks super good!!!
Atmosphere was wonderful and most key was Georgie.. he made our day with very warm welcoming charm
Jasmine Singh The hostess was attentive and joyful giving suggestions on dishes and cocktails. The seafood pasta was delicious and cooked to perfection along with the ravioli, and they made the night even more special with a happy birthday singalong and treat for my mum.
Miss Notebook Honestly, this was one of the best experiences. It greatly exceeded our expectations. The food was great, the atmosphere was fantastic in our pod, we got to play music and it was heated. The staff were fantastic, Maddy and Shirjana truly went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience.
Lukasz Kuich I am very glad that I managed to find another place which has my full recommendation. The food was fresh and full of taste. Had a chance to speak with Andy who is running this restaurant, he is very nice person and looks like his priority is to keep high standard. I like his approach. Would I visit this restaurant again, 100% YES. Hope will be around soon to visit Harvest Moon again.
