HOKO Hong Kong Cafe - (Near Tower Hamlets, South East)

3 /5 Sunchi: I wasn’t blown away by the food here unfortunately, I expected more from reading the reviews. The tofu steak with rice was good but not anything special, the spring onion sweet soy sauce helped give it flavour. The Hong Kong milk tea was fine and probably the best thing I had was the HK French toast but I love French toast in general. Also have to mention that my food was just left on the side until I asked about it which meant that everything arrived colder than normal. I don’t like complaining but i feel like the service could’ve been better. Hopefully this was just a one off bad experience :( Still worth checking out for the great decor and aesthetic of the place.

5 /5 ava gruft: I can’t stop thinking about how good this place was. Pork belly was so perfectly sweet and savory, cooked to perfection and not super fatty. I got it on the bagel and it was insanely good. My partner got the pork belly on rice with the fried egg and was also perfection. We also got the chicken wings which were delicious. And last but not least the Hong Kong French toast was the most perfect thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. I can’t stop thinking about it. It was piping hot and fresh. Also the food came in less than 5 minutes. The atmosphere is very busy and fast, sorta in and out type of place not really much of a sit down place. No table service just order at the screen and get your food delivered to you in a few minutes. It’s the perfect place to get a fast bite to eat. Prices are super fair as well and you will not leave hungry that’s for sure. Wow I love this place so much! Definitely coming back.

4 /5 Sharon Bao: HOKO was delicious and a great stop. I especially loved the LTO iced tea with oat milk foam. Genuinely so good and a standout drink for me. The food overall was very good, though some dishes do lean a bit rich, so it’s something to keep in mind depending on what you order. Service was quick and the staff were accommodating, which made it an easy and enjoyable stop. The space itself has a lively, energetic feel and almost feels like being inside an actual food market rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant. A fun, casual spot with great drinks and solid food, especially if you’re looking for something fast but flavorful.

5 /5 G: Honestly was very impressed with this spot, as someone who frequents Hong Kong yearly I always get the blues and cravings for cafe food whenever I’m back in the uk for too long. Firstly the interior and aesthetics are sooo clean, it depicts an olden day Hong Kong diner with the staff uniform matching the same theme too. Though there are queues lining up from opening throughout the day it seems to get progress pretty smoothly. The variety is not too big not too small so you can tell there are obvious signature dishes on the menu, I personally really like the fried squid tentacles as they were very rich in umami and crispy with the soy sauce chicken wings which are like the ones I had at home when I was younger. The portions are surprisingly also quite big and filling which is great with a side when dining with others, I personally preferred the cha siu over the pork chop as the pork chop was quite filling. Noodles were great and the egg was perfectly silky. Price wise obviously is more expensive than cha chaan tengs in Hong Kong but definitely worth the experience the nostalgia and taste of Hong Kong in London for a decent price point. They also have their in house homemade Hong Kong milk teas! Would definitely go again!!
