2 /5 Aishwarya Sanchety: What started as a hopeful experience, since the interior and exterior of the pub looked great, quickly turned into disappointment. I ordered the lunch special with the Grilled Cheese Toastie and a Coke. The menu described it as “a medley of mature Cheddar, Gouda and Emmental, with béchamel sauce in a toasted farmhouse loaf,” which sounded very promising.
What arrived, however, was nothing close. The bread was barely toasted, the cheese felt more like a thin melted layer had been smeared on like butter and there was none of the flavour promised. I sent it back and requested for it to actually be grilled with the cheeses listed. What came back was even worse, still under-toasted, with a cold, dense lump of cheese inside that was unpleasant and inedible.
The only reason I ate half was because I didn’t have time to order something else before I had to leave. At £9.25, this was not only underwhelming but genuinely disappointing. The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the server was really nice and apologetic.
